Waterbury Activism: Brass Valley Strikes of 1920

Annual Orton P. Camp Lecture

In 1919 and 1920 over 15,000 brass factory workers from the Waterbury and Naugatuck Valley region went out on strike. Utilizing oral history interviews from the archive, newspaper clippings, FBI files, and factory administrative records, Mattatuck Museum Archivist, Stephanie Crawford will explore why the factory workers went out on strike, what their demands were, and how the people on strike were perceived as an anti-American threat.
