Artists Abroad: Three Waterbury Women Artists and Their Travels

Orton P. Camp, Jr. Lecture

Friday, September 16, 1:00–2:00 PM

$5 Members | $10 General

The history of the Mattatuck Museum is full of talented artists and adventurous personalities. Three such individuals are Florentine Hayden (1859-1943), Elizabeth Kirk (1866-1959), and Marion Stoll (1879-1961). These women were all Waterbury artists who traveled internationally, developing their artistic practice and breaking boundaries. Each were also locally appreciated during their time, receiving their own solo shows at the Mattatuck Museum. This lecture, led by Assistant Curator Natalie DeQuarto, will share the stories of their exciting adventures abroad, using artwork and archival records from our collection to trace a story of groundbreaking, turn-of-the-century women.
